Established in 2001, the Darwin Region Epidemiology Group (DREG) is the AEA Chapter for the Top End of the Northern Territory.
DREG conducts regular professional development activities for epidemiologists and biostatisticians. Lunchtime seminars are conducted monthly at the Menzies School of Health Research, Royal Darwin Hospital Campus, Rockland Drive, Tiwi. Speakers come from a range of places, including the Centre for Disease Control, Menzies School of Health Research, Charles Darwin University and Health Gains Planning. The Northern Territory Chapter of the Australian Population Association (APA) is working with DREG and joint seminars will be hosted in 2006.
There are also occasional informal sessions conducted on Wednesday afternoons that serve as a forum utilising audience participation to discuss research methodologies. The location of the informal sessions is variable.
DREG, in collaboration with other research bodies in the NT, also sponsors seminars by eminent visiting epidemiologist and biostatistians, and is interested in fostering multi-disciplinary research approaches to important health problems.
Anyone interested in epidemiology or related disciplines is encouraged to participate in DREG professional development activities.
