Queensland Epidemiology Group (QEG)

 

The Queensland Epidemiology Group (QEG) is the AEA Chapter for Queensland and was established in 2005.

Aims of QEG:

  • To provide a mechanism for networking for epidemiologists and biostatisticians in Queensland.
  • To build knowledge regarding the broad range of workplaces/activity of epidemiological practice in Queensland.
  • To increase opportunities for collaborations in epidemiological research.
  • To enhance the reputation of epidemiology as a discipline/profession.
  • To build awareness of the range of career paths in epidemiology including those in academia, government, non-government organisations and private companies.
  • To develop opportunities for movement within different sectors such as secondments and training positions.
  • To enhance links between universities and industry to enhance training opportunities.
  • To support the AEA national body.

Our activities include:

  • QEG e-mail list: It informs QEG members of local relevant seminars and activities
  • Meetings planned for 2008/9 on the topics of cohort studies, nutrition and cancer, indigenous health and international health

    2007 - Dr. Philippa Middleton’s presentation on Wombats and Sea-Orchids-increasing the impact of maternal and infant research in Austyralia and South-East Asia , Queensland Health, 10 July

    2007 - Prof. Andrew Wilson’s presentation on “How can epidemiology better inform real world decisions”? Queensland Health, 10 May

The QEG Organising Committee consists of representatives from Queensland universities and key work sites for epidemiologists. Current Committee members are:
