AEA seeks expressions of interest from members in Canberra and environs to constitute the ACT Chapter organising committee including a more enthusiastic member to act as Chapter Coordinator. AEA Council views chapters as important channels to promote interaction between members locally. There are resources available to support expenses incurred in holding presentations or local meetings e.g. venue or victuals. Chapters conduct various professional development activities for epidemiologists and biostatisticians from evening or lunchtime seminars and discussion forums to weekend programs where members may network, present work and share ideas. Those who have enjoyed AEA events in their local capital city can testify to benefits that include providing students with outlets to show work in progress and mentoring opportunities.
We also occasionally receive requests for representation on public health or related events to be held in the Chapter home city. Once in every few years there is also an awesome and rewarding opportunity to help organise the AEA Annual Scientific Meetings or to represent the AEA in the Public Health Congress organising group. Every year the success of these events is a tribute to those involved who make a mark on the professional landscape in epidemiology and public health.
