The AEA is committed to encouraging students and if you are not already a member, I strongly urge you to join. In brief, the AEA supports students through:
- The AEA Student Prize. The AEA offers an award to the student in each institution who achieves the highest score in an introductory epidemiology syllabus of either an undergraduate or a postgraduate degree. The AEA Student Prize consists of a one year student membership of the AEA.
- The AEA Travel Award. This is a $2500 award to support a postgraduate student member of the Association who is nearing completion of study, or a member of AEA who has recently completed postgraduate studies, to undertake travel for professional purposes.
- The AEA Travel Bursary. A limited number of bursaries are awarded to AEA students (full-time only) who submit abstracts to present their work at the Annual Scientific Meeting. Applications for bursaries are invited at the time of the Call for Abstracts by indicating on the abstract that they wish to be considered for the student conference travel bursary. The amount of funding for the Travel Bursary may vary from year to year and is dependent on production of registration/travel receipts. This award is given in recognition of exemplary abstracts.
- The AEA Early Career Award. The aim of this award is to provide up to three early career epidemiological researchers (masters or doctoral students, or those who have graduated with one of these degrees in the past three years) the opportunity to meet others at a similar stage in their training, and to discuss methodological, theoretical or other issues with experienced epidemiologists in a workshop style format.
- The AEA Student Workshop. During the conference the workshop provides the Early Career Awardees the opportunity to present a brief background outlining one or more methodological, theoretical or other problems they have encountered in their research. Each researcher will be matched with one or two epidemiologists with expertise in the area (the discussants) who will lead a discussion involving the presenting early career researcher and the audience.
Further details of these awards are available on the following tabs.
