Request for Abstract Reviewers

The Scientific Committee of the 2012 Population Health Congress is seeking practitioners and researchers to volunteer to review abstracts. This will need to occur between the 10th and 26th March 2012. We are seeking nearly 150 reviewers to review the anticipated 900 plus abstracts. Given that each abstract is reviewed (blind) twice, that means each reviewer will be asked to assess between 10 and 15 abstracts and enter your scores and comments directly online. We are looking for people able to review within one or more of a wide range of topics.

We would be very pleased if you were able to share your expertise in this way to contribute towards a successful Congress, run jointly as you know, by the four major organisations in this area: the Public Health Association of Australia, the Australian Health Promotion Association, the Australasian Epidemiological Association and the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine.

Prizes for Top Students in Introductory Epidemiology or Biostatistics

The Australasian Epidemiological Association (AEA) is offering an award to the student in each course who achieves the highest score in an introductory epidemiology or an introductory biostatistics subject.

Courses can be from either an undergraduate or a postgraduate degree. Multiple prizes may be awarded if top students are enrolled in different degrees but completing the same syllabus.

The Prize consists of a one-year student membership of the AEA.

We are currently awarding prizes for courses run in Semester 2 of 2011.

Course coordinators need to identify the student who achieved the highest score and provide the student’s name, course, and contact details to the AEA Student Representative, Yu Sun Bin ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

PPESIG Breakfast

The Perinatal and Paediatric Epidemiology Special Interest Group (PPESIG) breakfast at the recent Australasian Epidemiological Association conference was a great success. Thank you to those who volunteered to raise issues for discussion (Sarah McIntyre - perinatal deaths and cerebral palsy, Colleen O'Leary - prenatal alcohol exposure, Elizabeth Comino - measuring change in infant growth). We all enjoyed the ensuing discussion and the comments made by our discussant Jane Halliday. If you would like further information on the PPE Special Interest Group or to be included on our email list, please contact the co-convenors This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. New section of Australasian Epidemiologist

AE now has a new section of the journal specifically designed for literature reviews!
This is intended as a forum for dissemination without peer review of high-quality literature reviews that are narrative in nature (i.e. not formal systematic reviews or meta-analyses).
Articles in this category do not have to relate to the theme or the deadline for submission of the Round Table.

Submissions are welcome at any time.
