As part of AEA's commitment to student members, up to three AEA Early Career Awards are offered for attendance at the Annual Scientific Meeting. The aim of these awards is to provide two early career researchers (masters or doctoral epidemiology students, or those who have graduated with one of these degrees in the past three years) the opportunity to meet others at a similar stage in their training, and to discuss methodological issues with experienced epidemiologists in a workshop style format. A Student subcommittee of the Council of AEA will select the Early Career Award recipients based on the abstracts submitted for the two specified workshop sessions.
Format of workshop
The value of the award is $500AUD. The Awards will be presented at the annual conference. The Award is intended to assist with travel costs to attend the annual conference. Recipients will receive the full amount of the Award regardless of location of residence and are not required to submit travel receipts.
NB: AEA Early Career Award recipients are not entitled to also collect a student bursary from the AEA conference.
Eligibility
AEA members enrolled full or part-time in a post-graduate research degree, or those who have graduated from such a degree within the past three years, are eligible to apply to for the Award. Preference is given to doctoral students.
Selection
Award recipients will be selected by a Student subcommittee of the AEA Council based on the merit of their abstracts for the early career researcher workshop and availability of suitable discussants. In any year the subcommittee may refrain from making one or more recommendations if no suitable applicant is found.
